I want to talk about my current City Council person and my pick for the Ward 10 City Council seat Aisha Chughtai. I wasn't always supporting her but after seeing her work with everything and seeing that she actually cares changed my point of view. I didn't vote for her last time but will be voting for her this time.
Aisha has helped workers at the Minneapolis institude of arts for fairness and workers rights. She also was the lead person to make sure that workers, employers, and stakeholders in the community a seat at the table. I have to say that this is something I value very much. Aisha also fought to increase the wages of the lowest wage workers in our city.
One thing that really has helped people is that the Pre Eviction noticed went from 14 days to 30 days. People now have more time to find another place or make arragnments with the lawyer. She invested in making fire safety a top priority with making the fire suppression in public housing updated.
Aisha has made a top prioty to make sure that we take and make the neighbors more walkable. I drive a car but I am whiling to make sure that people have places to yes park their car but also allow them walk around. We finally opened up the Metro B Line and she has made that possible. We continue to see Aisha Chughtai make the piroty the people and not cars. Which is absolutely correct. One thing that I want to see more of is making pedestrain malls. A good place is to start around Bde Maka Ska and Lake street. Allow pedsterain to get back places where they can go and not have to worry about getting hit by a car. Also we should add more bump up crosswalks to help make people slowdown and make it to where people don't have to step up and down.
One thing that we should be definitely be thanking Aisha for working hard is making sure that the houseless populations have the hygriene stations and treating them with dignity and respect. We all are one event away from being on the street with them
The work that Aisha had down to help revitialize Uptown. This is something that is close to my heart because I live in Uptown. I saw all the big companies leave but now I keep seeing the small businesses move in. Aisha wants to continue to allow these businesses the chance to come in.
The accomplishments that Aisha had worked for making the LGBTQIA2S+ lives easier. We have continue to see progress but there is much to go on this issue. More LGBTQIA2S+ wants to just be created as human beings. We don't want to be treated as someone special .
Lastly, Aisha has worked to make everyone be equtiable. We see that people want to be treated like they matter and are equal. But equality is not a one size fits all. Equality is like saying oh everyone gets one box to see over the fence. Well that may be great but the shortest person still won't see over the fence. So what we need to treat people equitably. To make sure that the help that we are giving are going out to people who need it and have enough help to get ahead and stay ahead.
You can learn all about Aisha and her plan for representing Ward 10 on the city council on her website.
I know I'll be voting for her over Lydia Millard.
